The Spanish Biophysics Society (SBE) has awarded the "Manuel Rico" - Bruker Prize to Dr. Germán Rivas, head of the Sistem Biochemistry of bacterial division group at Biological Research Center (Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas - CIB).
This prize is awarded in memory of Professor Manuel Rico, who was a leading biophysicist, member of the SBE and Research Professor at the Institute of Chemical Physics "Rocasolano" (CSIC-Madrid). Pioneer using nuclear magnetic resonance technologies, he took over the first NMR spectrometer in Spain, making important advances in this field. The prize is addressed to biophysicists who develop their main activity in Spain. Preference is given to members of the SBE working on structure or function problems from a biophysics perspective.
Dr. Germán Rivas has been honored with this prize for his trajectory in the study of interactions, reactivity and structural organization of supramolecular systems in crowded cell-like environments. The award consists in 3000 Euros and will be presented during the EBSA 10th ICBP - IUPAP Biophysics Congress that will be held Madrid the 20th to 24th of July where the awardee will deliver an invited talk.
