On Wednesday, April 26, the COMPLEMENTO 3-CM consortium held its official kick-off meeting at the Gregorio Marañón Lecture Hall of the Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas Margarita Salas (CIB-CSIC), with the participation of all the research and clinical groups involved, and representatives of the associated companies Abvance and Secugen.
"COMPLEMENTO 3-CM: Complement in Health and Disease" is a Biomedicine Program funded by the Comunidad de Madrid and coordinated by M. Cristina Vega, PI from the CIB Margarita Salas. In addition, the consortium includes the groups of Santiago Rodríguez de Córdoba, F. Javier Cañada, and Sonsoles Martín-Santamaría also from this center.
This is one of the five programs coordinated by the CSIC in the 2022 Call, funded with 828.000 €. The COMPLEMENTO 3-CM program is set to advance the clinical and basic knowledge of the physiopathology of the complement system of human immunity. It aims to develop more accurate diagnostic tools and more efficient therapies for the growing number of complement-associated diseases.
During the kick-off meeting, the nine beneficiary groups, representing the Spanish Research Science Council (CSIC), the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), the Spanish National Center for Immunology of the Carlos III Health Institute (CNM-ISCIII), and the Hospital la Paz Research Foundation (IdiPAZ), summarized their research and clinical goals and provided an update on the progress made, in a highly collaborative environment where students, postdocs, technicians, and researchers contributed their views, experience, and knowledge on the biomedical area of the complement system.
