The CSIC publishing house has included in its eBooks catalog the first issue of the scientific pills collection entitled "Microorganisms and infectious diseases". The authors are Marta Sobrinos, Miguel Ángel Robles and Begoña García-Sastre. The book has been illustrated by Yolanda González and the idea and coordination is by Mercedes Jiménez, researcher at the Margarita Salas Center for Biological Research (CSIC).
Microorganisms are living beings that we cannot see without a microscope. These microscopic beings are essential for our survival and that of all ecosystems on the planet. Some are beneficial and essential for health, while others can cause disease. To help our bodies fight them, it is important to know them.
Microorganisms and Infectious Diseases is the first of four titles in the Píldoras Científicas collection coordinated by the CIB Margarita Salas. Bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoa, diseases, contagions, immune systems, and biotechnology are some of the contents found in this issue with a simple, cheerful, attractive, and very accessible format for ages 10 to 99.
The book is currently being adapted to an easy-to-read and accessible PDF format.
The book has been coordinated within the framework of the MADCOVID project belonging to the Social Forum of the Interdisciplinary Thematic Platform Global Health and has been financed with European Recovery Funds.
