UNESCO stated February 11 as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science in 2015 in order to inspire and promote women's participation in education, training, and science and technology and recognize the critical role of girls and women in the scientific and technological communities.
At the Margarita Salas Center for Biological Research, 55% of the staff are women, working as scientific personnel and in training, technical and administrative support.
To commemorate this day, on January 31, 2023, the CIB Margarita Salas organized a workshop on Sexual and Gender-Based Harassment to discuss the identification of inappropriate behavior in this context and the legal remedies available to those affected. The speakers at the workshop were Ángela Bernardo, author of the book 'Harassment. #MeToo in Spanish science', published by Next Door Publishers, and editor of Civio, and the lawyer Eva Gálvez Huerta, member of the Association of women jurists THEMIS and Municipal Point of the Regional Observatory of Gender Violence of the City Councils of Arganda del Rey and Tres Cantos.
