The CIB Margarita Salas published in June the new number of its newsletter "COVID-19 and the value of knowledge", focused on initiatives developed from the center to tackle the pandemic of COVID-19, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
The contents of this issue include the participation of CIB researchers in the Global Health Interdisciplinary Thematic Platform, created by the CSIC to mobilize research groups from different centers, in collaboration with other institutions, public administration and companies, guiding them through research and innovation, towards the study of the most relevant objectives in this priority area. In its beginning, it focuses on providing from a global perspective, a vision of the COVID-19 pandemic and we interviewed Dr. Margarita del Val, coordinator of the PTI Global Health, who spoke to us about the challenges they are facing face.
Up to the publication date, eight research projects are being underway at the CIB Margarita Salas, led by researchers participating in the platform. We summarize them in one of the reports. Three of our researchers coordinate each working groups within the PTI and give us their opinion about the context in which they take place. We also include a reflection on the role of communication and dissemination of science in the present pandemic and we talk about an important historical episode for Spain: The Royal Philanthropic Vaccine Expedition.
All the articles included in this issue of the Newsletter can be read (in Spanish) in the "CIB Newsletter" tab on our outreach channel, CIB-CSIC TV: https://divulgacion.cib.csic.es/
