The Valencian researcher Luisa Botella, head of the CIB Margarita Salas group "Translational Research in Rare Diseases with Vascular Involvement: From the Lab to the Patients", received the Ateneo Mercantil Award in the Health Sciences and Research category on December 13, 2021. These prizes are awarded to “praise the merits of those Valencians who succeed” in their fields, as Carmen de Rosa, president of the Athenaeum, has said.
The award was presented by Gloria Tello, delegate councilor for Heritage and Cultural Resources of the Valencia City Council. Dr. Botella showed her gratitude after receiving the award: "I feel very grateful and, of course, proud to be Valencian and to be able to contribute a grain of sand for the benefit of all people who suffer from a rare disease." In addition, she has wanted to take the opportunity to denounce the lack of resources that, in her opinion, exists in Spain under investigation, before and now.
Along with Luisa Botella, the writer Santiago Posteguillo in the category ‘Human Sciences and Communication’ and the couturier Amado Ortells in ‘Creativity and Fine Arts’ were also awarded at the same event.
