Dr. Enrique J. de la Rosa was appointed as new Director of the Biological Research Center by the President of the Spanish National Research Council, Prof. Rosa Menéndez, on April 3rd. In this position, he replaces Prof. María Jesús Martínez, who has been in charge of this research center since 2012.
The new management team of the Biological Research Center will be constituted by the aforementioned Enrique J. de la Rosa as Director, and Drs. Pilar S. Testillano, María Colmenares and Javier Cañada as Deputy Directors.
In an assembly held on April 10th, they presented the main lines of action proposed for their management period. After the last years of drastic reduction of resources, the new director has proposed to prioritize and balance the necessary steps to have the research activity of the CIB at full capacity.
For this, the priority lines of the new management team will be: a) rejuvenate and increase the staff of the research groups, as well as the services, both scientific and support (technical, management and general services), demanding new positions and looking for ways to attract groups and scientists with a broad future to the CIB; b) renew and update the center's infrastructure, strengthening the services, which will be a priority both for personnel distribution and for requests for equipment; c) increase the financing of the CIB as a whole, seeking new sources of funding and promoting the participation of the center and its researchers in requests for excellence, such as the Severo Ochoa program or the CSIC's Interdisciplinary Platforms, as well as exploring new ways of supporting the groups to participate in international projects.
In addition, the new management team aims to promote training activities, including the Master's in Molecular and Cellular Integrative Biology (MCIB, CSIC-UIMP), the transfer and internationalization, as well as the dissemination and visibility of the research activities of the center.
