The Global Health Interdisciplinary Thematic Platform was created at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the aim of concentrating the efforts in the research against SARS-CoV-2. Since then, the PTI has mobilized and coordinated more than 300 researchers from more than 90 CSIC research centers in various areas of knowledge.
One year later, this collective effort and multidisciplinary strategy have given, and continue to give, encouraging results in record time. These have been announced in the Webinar "The CSIC and COVID-19: one year later", broadcasted live on May 5. This colloquium counted on the participation of Margarita del Val, coordinator of the platform PTI, together with the responsible for its thematic areas. A video summary was recorded on the most promising results of this year of research:
In this summary, some of the projects in progress at the Margarita Salas Center for Biological Research (CIB-CSIC) have been highlighted. Among them, the development of a vaccine based on synthetic DNA by Vicente Larraga's group, or the search for treatments, through drug repurposing, carried out by the group of Carmen Gil and Ana Martínez in collaboration with Pablo Gastaminza and Urtzi Garaigorta (CNB-CSIC), or through the development of therapeutic antibodies, a project by Cristina Vega's group.
However, these are not the only efforts made at CIB-CSIC in this context. Our researchers have been very active, with 19 projects focused on different aspects of the pandemic.
More information about the results obtained within the Global Health PTI can be found in the Webinar "The CSIC and COVID-19: one year later":
