Mission

The aim of the Flow Cytometry Core Facility at CIB is to provide advanced instrumentation as well as high-level technical and scientific expertise in multi-dimensional Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting, to facilitate science, improve the quality, and advance the scope of CIB research.

We are proud members of the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry

Acknowledging the facility

All peer-reviewed publications by CIB faculty or staff should acknowledge work performed/assisted by the Flow Cytometry facility.

Equipment

The Flow Cytometry facility is comprised of multiple machines from established manufacturers to provide the best range of cytometric capabilities and applications.

- Analyzers:

  • CytoFLEX S: 4 active lasers (405 nm, 488 nm, 561 nm, 638 nm) and 13 channels for fluorescence detection. For higher throughput applications an optional plate loader module is available

  • Cytek Aurora 4L: The Cytek Aurora leverages full spectrum technology to provide unprecedented flexibility, enabling the use of a wide array of new fluorochrome combinations without reconfiguring the system for each application. The Aurora system delivers high-resolution data at the single-cell level to resolve the most challenging cell populations, such as cells with high autofluorescence or low levels of expression of key biomarkers, regardless of assay complexity.
4 active lasers (405 nm, 488 nm, 561 nm, 638 nm) and 50 channels for fluorescence detection. For higher throughput applications an optional plate loader module is available

- Cell sorter:

  • FACSAria Fusion III: The BD FACSAria™ Fusion Flow Cytometer provides sensitivity for multicolor and sorting applications. The BD FACSAria™ Fusion Flow Cytometer combines sorting capabilities with best-in-class biosafety expertise for a comprehensive advanced cell sorter and biosafety solution. The fully integrated biosafety cabinet meets emerging operator and sample protection requirements as well as many country standards for bioprotection. The instrument uses BD FACSDiva™ Software to efficiently control the setup, acquisition and analysis of flow cytometry data from the operator workstation.
    4 active lasers: 405 nm, 488 nm, 561 nm, 638 nm)
    Nozzle sizes: 70um; 85um; 100um
    Sorting: 1 to 4 way for tubes and on plates 6, 12, 24, 48, 96 and 384 wells

Software

  • FlowJo: FlowJo Software is currently available for CIB users. To learn more about how to use FlowJo, you can visit the official website or check the links and tutorials in our website.
  • OMIQ: Streamline your flow cytometry analysis with innovative, cloud-based software designed to eliminate manual data handling, remove analysis limits, and enable effortless collaboration.

Facility Policies

All of the policies set forth for instrument usage and charging are meant to encourage or promote a fair and efficient usage of the instruments and services. Following these policies is crucial for the optimal functioning of the facility, and it's everyone's responsibility to ensure these shared resources are used appropriately and as efficiently as possible.

- General Policies

The use of general lab equipment and consumables are for researchers currently using the cell analyzers or cell sorters in the facility. Please do not use this equipment otherwise, unless with explicit permission from Flow Cytometry Core Facility staff.

NormasServicioCitometriaCIB.pdf

- The Flow Cytometry facility works from 9:00 to 16:30.

- Data Storage

All data acquired on the instrument’s workstations is the sole responsibility of each person to secure, transfer, and remove from the computer upon completing their experiment. Flow Cytometry Core Facility is not responsible for any data acquired on the analyzers or sorters. Acquisition software and workstations are regularly cleaned, and all data is removed with notice.

- New User

As a new user, you should first request access to citometria@cib.csic.es

We offer a number of services which include operator assisted sorting, classes in flow cytometry, training in operation of instrumentation (analyzers), access to user operated analyzers and consultation in experimental and panel design.
